Pretests

Availability
  • Pretests are available for all the levels/papers of the Cambridge English exams except for Cambridge Young Learners English (YLE) and Speaking tests
  • CEFL makes upfront arrangement for pretests to be administered for its registered candidates once a year, usually six to eight weeks before the exams. The pretest papers will be sent to the UK for marking by Cambridge English.

Benefits

  • Pretesting allows candidates to experience a simulated exam prior to sitting for the real examination.
  • Candidates not only experience the type of questions asked but also will be able to discover their performance from their pretest scores. This will also help them to improve in particular language areas before the real examination.

​Examiners

  • All examiners are accredited with the aid of Cambridge English.
  • Speaking tests are conducted by locally-based and highly experienced examiners who examine candidates face-to-face to ensure the standards remain consistent.
  • All written exam papers are sent to the UK for marking by Cambridge Assessment International Education.

Exam Centres

  • Schools or institutions have to meet certain criteria to become an approved Cambridge English centre.
  • Authorised Cambridge English centres operate according to clearly defined regulations and Cambridge English carries out regular centre inspections to ensure that standards are maintained.

General details


  • As a founding member of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE), Cambridge English has collaborated together with other member organisations to create the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This globally accepted structure defines language skills in a scale of six skills levels, ranging from beginner A1 to C2.
  • The Cambridge English exams are the only accredited tests listed in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Please refer to the video below to know more about CEFR.

What is CEFR?

Experts and people all over the world use the CEFR as an official measure to explain what their current level of English language proficiency is, and to know what level of English they need for a path to better academic, professional, and social opportunities. Cambridge English For Life follows the CEFR standard because we are an Authorised Cambridge English exam centre.
