About the CEFL Reading Competition 2012, “READING ROCKS!”
This was CEFL’s inaugural Reading Competition and a CSR project aiming to encourage children to devote more time to English language books. The competition provided an opportunity for the contestants to read aloud a passage they had chosen. The benefits and the joy of reading are at the centre of the competition. It also aimed to help children improve their vocabulary and their listening, speaking and, of course, reading skills. The theme, “READING ROCKS!”, conveys the idea that reading is cool and exciting – and worthwhile – and was designed to appeal to today’s generation.
The Competition was open to children aged 7-12 and was divided into 2 age groups, 7-9 and 10-12. There were 2 rounds – Preliminaries and the Finals. Two hundred children registered for this inaugural event and twenty were selected for the Finals. Contestants were assessed based on the following criteria: choice of story and passage, understanding of the story, voice projection, delivery, pronunciation and overall impression.
CEFL wish to thank all our sponsors for making this event a success!
